The Word is our guide, our standard whereby we measure all things

The Word is our guide, our standard whereby we measure all things, even the words that God gives us today!

Some people think that the last time God ever spoke was to John on the Isle of Patmos, when John received the Book of Revelation, the final Book of the Bible, and He hasn't spoken since then! But aren't you glad that God still speaks to His children today? Once you're a growing, maturing Christian, you can get the guidance and instructions you need for your present circumstances directly from the Lord Himself.

But how do you know that what you hear is really the Voice of God? How do you test your inspiration? Scripture is the yardstick, the final authority by which you can measure anything that's said. The Lord may give you new details or clarification, like a fulfilling or filling up of the gaps, but true revelations will never contradict the basic principles of the Bible, of faith in God and His Love and His Salvation!

Revelations usually come like a quick flash, but then you have to see if there is a Scriptural precedent where such a thing could have happened before. Look for a similar situation in the Word! Measure it with the yardstick of the Scriptures. Weigh it in the balances. Check it out with the Department of Weights and Measures, the Bible!
